Q-Tip is workin on a New Joint: Q-Tip is working on his sophomore LP, but expect him to take an even stranger turn this time around. The former head of A Tribe Called Quest will deliver his sophomore release in November, but this time will be backed by a live band, and will be singing as much as he is rapping. Look for heavy jazz influence on Tip's new release. Dela Soul is workin on their A.O.I. Pt.2 Joint: De La Soul is finishing up the second volume of the "Art Official Intelligence" album series, which is due out sometime before the end of the year. The new album, still untitled, will include collaborations with Ghostface Killah, B-Real, Cee-Lo, and Slick Rick, thus far. Jay Z and MJ live on Stage in Summer Jam: The big news is what went down at Summer Jam with Jay-Z. Not only did Michael "Invincible" Jackson make an appearance during Jigga's set, but Jigga also perfomed his new single, "H To The Izzo". But the real part of the show was J's dis to Prodigy of Mobb Deep. In a freestyle J said about Prodigy, "You's a ballerina / I seen ya", and showed childhood photos on a huge screen, of Prodigy in a sparkling leotard dance outfit. This is getting really thick Wyclef workin on 3rd album: Wyclef Jean is in the studio again, working on his third album, "Masquerade". Clef told MTV: "I have two sounds for the album. I'm debating about Masquerade, because when I did joints like '911' or 'Diallo' or 'Gone Till November,' it touched people in a certain place, and that's a certain side of me. I'm thinking for the next level to keep it on that kind of vibe but give you 13 joints of not trying to be all over the place. Concentrate on a mood." Hmmm, maybe this new album should be titled "Redemption Songs |

The DVD will feature Xzibit music videos such as"Paparazzi"or "X" as well as footage of concerts like the Anger Management Tour. Another big moment of the DVD is a documentary about X's life. Guests to appear are among others : Ras Kass, Saafir, Defari, Eminem, Snoop, Dre, Method Man. Outkast Hits Album To Include Five New Tracks to Greatest Hits album: Outkast are working on putting together a greatest hits album, due out by the end of the year, which will of course include hits like "Ms. Jackson", "Player's Ball", "Elevators", along with five all new, never heard before tracks. No word yet on whether or not they plan on including some of the harder to find non-album tracks such as "Benz Or Beamer", "In Due Time" or "B.O.B. (Rage Against The Machine Remix)". The album will also include five all new, never heard before tracks. Pete Rock "Petestrumentals" Re-Released: A little bit of light has been shed on the Pete Rock "PeteStrumentals" re-release. Apparently, Pete Rock, after hearing Jay Dee's album, wanted to include some other tracks on his new album, but decided this at the last minute right when the original version went to press. He then turned in the second draft, with the other tracks and this is how he intended it. In other news, BBE will continue the Beat Generation series that started with Jay Dee's "Welcome To Detroit" and continued with "PeteStrumentals". All new volumes from Marley Marl, DJ Spinna, King Britt (Digable Planets), and Will.I.Am (Black Eyed Peas) are due out by the end of the year, with volumes from Psycho Les (Beatnuts), Ayatollah, 88 keys, Jazzy Jeff, Large Pro, Shawn J. Period & Doug Infinite, James Poyser & Vikter Duplaix (Soulquarians) slated for 2002. Bleek, Beans & Rice: Beanie Sigel, hot off the heels of his sophomore release, "The Reason", has two more projects in the works. Naturally, the crew album from State Property which features Beans teamed up with Freeway, Oskino, and Sparks, plus a duet album with Memphis Bleek, entitled, "Beans and Bleek". |

"Hey little bourgeois kids stop yellin'/ Cause to the Grym/ Reaper you'll be wailin',/ Your friend Marty got a new Mazeratti,/ His brother Artie got a brand new Ferrari,/ It really offends you,/ To see all of your friends do,/ Better,/ So you ask your pops for a Benz,/ You got a sweater,/ A pair of slacks, and a '94 Jetta,/ Shit was butta,/ But instead of,/ Gratitude,/ Your attitude,/ Was rash and rude,/ Irrationally you started a fued/ Now your're standing on the Gravedigga lot,/ Thinkin' of losin' the rough life you've got,/ You refuse to abide/ By the rules prescribed to life/ So you grab a life,/ You fool! DMX's dogs-for-life threw him a birthday bash to celebrate his "dirty 30" Rapper/actor DMX didn't have to ask where his dogs were Monday night. About 250 of X's loved ones were at Jezebel's in New York City waiting for him to show up at a surprise party celebrating his 30th birthday. Rolling in with his manager Ray Copleand, X arrived to find all his friends and closest family "up in there," catching the startled star completely off-guard.
In the house at the famed soul food restaurant, which is co-owned by actor Michael Wright, were well-wishers including songstress Mary J. Blige, producer Swizz Beats, protégé Drag-On, Dru Hill member Nokio, Murder Inc.'s Irv Gotti and Island/Def Jam President Lyor Cohen. They feasted on a lovely oversized birthday cake which featured images of all of X's album covers.

4-6-01: Jay-Z & Beanie Sigel drop new Albums this year: |

Jay-Z is ready to return the verbal jabs that have been levied at him lately. The Grammy Award-winner is working on a new album that he hopes to put out on Nov. 20th. Mobb Deep's Prodigy throws a barb at Jay-Z on "Mobb Niggaz" Independently released on JCOR Entertainment's Game Over II compilation, Prodigy rhymes, "Niggas get bagged and tagged for comin' at my familia/ This ain't the Roc nigga/ We wet them faggot-ass niggas." Before Jay-Z's next album arrives, Beanie Sigel's aforementioned The Reason hits stores on June 26. On the LP, which is nearly completed, Beans doles out his patented edgy, strife-filled street narratives. "I Love You," which features Jay-Z (and, when finished, may also include vocals by Mary J. Blige), is a sequel of sorts to "Where Have You Been," which appeared on last year's The Dynasty - Roc La Familia (2000 - ). Once again, Sigel and Jay-Z are unapologetic inaddressing their deep-rooted anger toward their absentee fathers while admitting they still have love in their hearts. Sigel also remakes EPMD's 1989 classic "So Wat Cha Sayin'" on the LP as "So What U Sayin'" With Beans and Memphis Bleek going line-for-line with freestyles. Roc-A-Fella also plans to release "That's My Baby," the first single by crooner Rell, who's slated to drop in August as well. In the works instead is a world tour featuring Jay-Z and the Roc-A-Fella family, with Dash citing Europe and Japan as possible stop-offs. No details on that outing have been finalized. |

ALSO IN STORES TODAY ARE Q.B's FINEST & LIL WAYNE's "LIGHTS OUT!" THE ALBUM. |
Track listing for Beanie Sigel's The Reason, on Roc-A-Fella: "Nothing Like It" "Guess Who's Back" "For My Niggas" "Grandma" "Get Down" "Man's World" "I Love You" "I Don't Do Much" "Watchin Bitches" "What's Ya Life Like" "Untitled #2" "So What U Sayin'" "Gangsta Nigga" "Tales of a Hustler" In Stores June 26th. |

Mack 10 wasn't too happy with Priority records, saying he needed more push : "it gets to the point where a brother in the NBA wants a championship ring. It got to that point. I just needed to win.". Mack 10's own label Hoo Bangin records is still with Priority Records but he said he plans to change that. In other Cash Money news, Juvenile could leave the crew as he wants to sign a multi million deal with Universal and create his own label U.T.P. Records. |

DMX: Ruff Ryder big dog DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, limped out of the Erie County Correctional Facility on crutches Friday, claiming that a guard assaulted him during a cell inspection. According to the Associated Press, the guard allegedly threw Simmons' Bible during an inspection Wednesday, and when the rapper turned around, the guard forced him on the ground, injuring his knee and back. Simmons did not file an official complaint. The Yonkers MC is due back in court this Wednesday (March 14) in Cheektowaga, New York town court to face a contempt charge brought when he showed up more than a week late to begin the 15-day prison sentence for the traffic violation. Simmons is also due in court at Alden, New York town court on March 27 to face a charge of felony assault after allegedly throwing food trays at two prison guards on the last day of his sentence. If convicted of assault, Simmons faces up to seven years in prison. Simmons didn't let his injury interrupt the pre-release party for his new film, Exit Wounds, with Steven Seagal, which hits theaters March 16. That night, he hopped over to the Rainbow Room in New York City, and performed five songsincluding "No Sunshine" from the movie's soundtrackbefore an audience including Wyclef Jean, Treach from Naughty By Nature and Jay Z, among others. The event was hosted by DJ Funkmaster Flex. Simmons was arrested March 3, 2000, on the Kensington Expressway for traffic violations, driving with a suspended permit and possessing marijuana. He later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving without a license and was ordered to serve the maximum 15-day jail term. Though he was ordered to turn himself in on Feb. 9, Simmons did not surrender to authorities until Feb. 26. For failing to turn himself in, he faces a contempt of court charge. Then, the prison Discipline Committee delayed Simmons' March 6 release date because his good behavior credit was revoked after learning that he was written up for disciplinary problems. He ended up serving only 11 days of the sentence. |

Arizona Desert Is Muse To DMX's Ears: A rapper's muse is a curious thing. While some MCs have been known to light candles in the studio, watch old TV shows or even indulge in the occasional intoxicant for inspiration, DMX found his inspiration to breathe fire by chillin' in the serenity of Arizona's rattlesnake-inhabited desert. "It's been a beautiful experience," said producer Dame Grease, who spent a month and a half there recording DMX's fourth LP, tentatively titled The Ears. "We had the most fun ever." Grease, who laid down 10 tracks for DMX's debut album, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, is going back to the studio next week this time in New York to begin the album's mastering process. According to the producer, DMX is nearly finished with the 14 songs selected for the album, which will also feature production work from Ruff Ryders Swizz Beatz and PK. DMX's management firm said the rapper who likens himself to a canine will soon see how much love Whitney Houston really has for thugs, as he has reached out to Mrs. Bobby Brown to sing on a song he's dedicating to his late grandmother. Although Houston's label, Arista, couldn't confirm her participation, Grease said '80s R&B queen Stephanie Mills and crooner Jaheim are onboard for the album, singing the hooks of two different songs. Big Stan, who's signed to DMX's Bloodline imprint, will also make an appearance. "We got some bangin' party joints, but it's an album that's going back to his roots," said Grease, who has four tracks on the album, including "TrinaMoe," which he describes as sounding futuristic and gutter. "It's well-rounded." DMX's label, Def Jam, said he may be going on tour this summer, but no dates have been confirmed. The Ears is scheduled for a September 25th release. |

Eminem to Star in a Movie, disses artists again: L.A. Confidential and Wonder Boys film director Curtis Hanson has signed on to direct rapper Eminem's acting debut. The as-yet-untitled Universal Pictures film is a fictional account of a troubled youngster from Detroit (sound familiar?) who turns to hip-hop as his saving grace. The film will include a soundtrack featuring collaborations between Eminem and his mentor, producer-rapper Dr. Dre. There was no word on an expected release date at press time. In related news, it seems like the Eminem/Everlast feud has expanded to include Eminem's one-time friends Fred Durst and DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit. Eminem has some choice and predictably profane words for the pair on "Girls," a track from the group D12's forthcoming Devil's Night, In Stores June 19th. Eminem is apparently upset about a comment Lethal made in December during the Limp guys' visit to "TRL." Lethal, who was in House of Pain with Everlast but was also friends with Eminem, at first said of their beef, "They're both men, they'll work it out." But he added that if the two were to take their differences outside the realm of their respective records, "Everlast would definitely win, you know what I mean?" In the song, Eminem claims he left Durst hanging on purpose when the red-capped singer tried to give him a high five at the MTV Video Music Awards in September though Em claimed his reason for dissing Durst and Lethal is for comments Lethal made two months later. Eminem also allied himself with Limp Bizkit when he attacked Everlast on the D12 B-side, "Shit on You," which was released in October, and "Quitter," released in December. |

Pharoahe Monch Sued By 'Godzilla's Theme' Owners: Toho Co. and Toho Music Corporation, the owners of the Godzilla theme song, filed a complaint for copyright infringement Friday (May 25) against rapper Pharoahe Monch, Priority Records, and Rawkus Entertainment at the United States District Court Central District Of California. Toho accuses Monch of sampling "Godzilla's Theme" without permission in his rap hit "Simon Says," from his 1999 album Internal Affairs. The album was released on the Priority Records-distributed Rawkus Entertainment. The defendants claim irreparable harm, and are seeking damages, attorney's fees, court costs, and an immediate injunction on the copying, distributing, and public performance of "Godzilla's Theme." |

Jayo Felony & Snoop Dogg Get Into Scuffle: San Diego-based rapper Jayo Felony, who ripped into Jay-Z with his song "True'd Up," was recently involved in a scuffle with rapper Snoop Dogg on the set of John Singleton's new movie, Baby Boy. Snoop Dogg appears in the movie, which also stars Tyrese and Ving Rhames. According to insiders, Felony wasn't happy with Snoop Dogg's continued usage of the term "Crip Hop," a phrase coined by Felony, which is also the title to his upcoming album due out later this summer. Felony recently explained to the New York Post's Page Six that he is tired of rappers mentioning gangs in their rhymes. Felony was taken aback when Jay-Z rhymed that people wonder whether he's blood or crip on his recent release, "Change The Game." Felony elaborated, "He ain't never gangbanged a day in his life. I'm tired of these niggas playing with the gangsta stuff. I've been banging since I was 11, 12 years old and I'm sick of these niggas making these funny-ass statements." |

Nate Dogg And Nas To Appear On Debut FUBU Compilation: Urban designer FUBU is gearing up for the August release of The Goodlife compilation, the first album to be released through its partnership with Universal Records. Turk drops solo LP "Young & Thuggin'": Last Hot Boy without a solo record finally drops one, Young & Thuggin'. Although he's been on platinum albums, heavily rotated videos, hit songs and a bevy of tours, the world is not too familiar with Turk. Sure, hip-hop fans may know his name and face, but rolling with his more flamboyant family members the Cash Money Millionaires and the Hot Boys Turk has more often than not been relegated to background status. "I blame that on myself because I was shy and laid-back," Turk said. Now opening up a little more, Turk, the only member of the Hot Boys without a solo album (everybody else Juvenile, BG and Lil Wayne has at least two), is ready to unabashedly tell his story with his debut, Young & Thuggin', due June 5th. "This is the hardest album since [Juvenile's] Tha G-Code," Turk said, assuring fans of Cash Money that they can expect more of what they love: girls, guns, getting your grind on and flashing their platinum grills. Not surprisingly, Manny Fresh produced the entire album and the Hot Boys and Big Tymers are featured throughout the LP. Turk said that Cash Money's newest members, Christina (the label's first female rapper), her brother Mickey and Mack 10 will also appear on the album. "Mack 10 is great. It's like he was here all the time," Turk said about his labelmate, who appears with him and the Hot Boys on "Yes We Do." "Being with the younger guys, [his music] is getting even more gangsta." Turk said Cash Money Records is still one big family Juvenile included. Lately the industry has been buzzing about a possible severing of ties between Juvenile and his blinging brethren."Shoot the messenger!" Turk said jokingly, dismissing talk of any breakups. "You know how they say 'don't shoot the messenger,' I say 'shoot the messenger.' You know how them rumors be. Juvenile is still with us. He's just been taking a break because he started work on his new label. We talk to him every day. He's on my album. They started rumors about me that I was leaving." It's a wonder that Turk and his crew even have time to hear any innuendo with their current work schedule. They're locked down in the studio. |

Suge Knight gives props to Jayo Felony: Apparently Suge Knight is digging Jayo Felony's brash style. On the Death Row Records Web site, Jayo is given an open invitation to join them. Here's what you can read on the site : Wanted Jay-O Felony To become a Deathrow inmate! For showing Bitch-a-- Snoop that it takes more than a couple of rent-a-Crips to be a gangsta! A source close to Jayo confirmed that the rapper has been in discussions with Suge, but Death Row publicist Jonathan Wolfson said he's unaware of any negotiations that would bring Jayo to the label. However, Jayo will be featured dissing Snoop Dogg on the label's July 31 release of Tha Dogg Pound 2002, Wolfson said. The album is a collection of songs that Dogg Pound members Daz and Kurupt recorded while still with Death Row. "I don't know nothin' about that," Daz said. "More power to them. I'm 'a get paid off it. I got a deal when I left that I walked with all [my masters]. They could put it out, but I still get all mine. I want to hear what he got." Daz and Kurupt, who were legally obligated to change their name to the D.P.G. when they left Death Row, released Dillinger & Young Gotti on May 1. Daz, who is in the final stages of his own contract negotiations with Roc-a-Fella Records, said he isn't worried about the old album competing with the new one. |

Keith Murray is Free!: Keith Murray was released from the Maple Street House halfway facility in Connecticut on Monday (May 14). Murray was convicted in 1996 of hitting a man in the head with a metal barstool at a Connecticut nightclub in 1995. The rapper was sentenced to three years behind bars and eventually turned himself in in October 1998, following a failed appeal. In April 2000, a witness came forward and admitted that they lied during the trial. Murray immediately filed a lawsuit for a new trial, which he later dismissed in exchange for having his sentence reduced by three months. Rumors have circulated that the rapper, who was once signed to Jive Records, will now sign with Def Jam Records. In the meantime, you can catch Murray on Redman's new album, Malpractice, which droped on this past Tuesday (May 22). Murray is featured on the song, "Wrong 4 Dat." |

It seems that Scott had an allergy, which developed into a bad cold then a lung infection. Once doctors give the word, Scott is hoping to get back on the road as soon as possible. Talk about a cold "gettin in the way"Scott had had a great 2001 'til now. Last month she performed at the Aretha Franklin Tribute at New York's Radio City Music Hall. As well, in March she was nominated for two Brit Awards and earned a Best New Artist Grammy nomination. |

Gangstarr back in the Studio: After a three-year hiatus from the recording studio, Gangstarr has just begun work on the follow-up to 1998's "Moment of Truth" . "It's always a thrill for me to go back and work with Premier," Guru tells. "It's like a marriage. You give each other creative space, then you come back and put your heads together and make something happen. Every time we do that, it gets more intense. It's ill." Guru says only three songs have been recorded so far, including "Culture of Freedom," on which he says he is "spitting about grimy New York living." The rapper is hoping to line up guest appearances from Virgin labelmates D'Angelo and Aaliyah and has talked with Snoop Dogg about a possible cameo. Look for the album to drop sometime early next year. |

Fat Joe & Cuban Link, Beef?: There appears to be no end to the madness in the world of Hip-Hop in NYC these days..... Terror Squad members Fat Joe and Cuban Link are apparently at odds with one another. The tension reached a boiling point this weekend in the Bronx (sat 4/21/01 ), at Angie Martinez's album release party, which jumped off at Jimmy's cafe. According to sources the beef escalated, due to Cuban's aggravation about his debut album being constantly pushed back. It was scheduled to drop in February of this year, on the Terror Squad's label imprint. Apparently, Joe wasn't in the best of moods when his younger protege stepped to him to voice his grievances. Whatever the case may be, witnesses say after a brief but violent verbal exchange. Fat Joe sliced Cuban Link in the face with the base of the medallion that swung from the end of his chain. Ironically, the platinum medallion that Fat Joe transformed into a weapon of destruction, was actually meant to be a symbol of love. The piece was a iced out tombstone meant to commemorate the tragic death of former Terror Squad member the late great Big Pun. A stunned crowd of party people looked on in disblief as blood began to stream down Cuban's face. The club was quickly evacuated. Sources say Cuban is in stable condition, recuperating in a undisclosed Bronx location. As always you can trust the people at OUTSOUTH will bring you facts, first and foremost. |

Jadakiss, DMX Team Up For Kiss the Game Goodbye: Jadakiss is currently shooting his new video "Knock Yourself Out" off the "Kiss the Game Goodbye", Originally scheduled for a May release, the album was pushed back to August 8 despite the strong buzz created by "Put Your Hands Up," the instant underground classic "We Gon' Make It," and his many guest appearances on R&B tracks. While he was not able to secure an Eminem appearance as planned, 'Kiss recently finished a track called "Ugh Huh" with his longtime compatriot DMX, and Nas finally laid down his rhymes for "Show Discipline." "Dirty South Scenario" features Fiend, 8Ball and Yung Wun and was produced by Swizz Beatz. Swizz also supplied the haunting, piano-powered track "Jada's Got a Gun," with a chorus that plays off of Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun." Jadakiss, who spent a few weeks recording some tracks in Los Angeles, also teams up with Snoop Dogg, spreading California love on "Cruisin'." Here, Jada keeps the party going by scoping girls at the Beverly Center before spreading bullets around like chicken pox. "We Gon' Make It," an underground hit last year, featured Jada and his fellow LOX member Styles interchanging lines about street mayhem. The two MCs plan to do a whole album following in the vein of that song. The song's beat caused controversy earlier this year when Ras Kass threatened to sue the track's producer, the Alchemist, claiming he had been sold the same beat, "Home Sweet Home". "That controversy is with Alchemist and Ras Kass," Jadakiss said. "He played the beat for me, I paid him his money and I laid my vocals on it. I ain't got nothing to do with that other shit. I ain't get a call from Ras Kass, no nothing, so I'm good. The album is my only concern for the next six to eight months." Jadakiss will soon be heard alongside Prodigy and Butch Cassidy on "Livin' the Life" from the compilation Violator the Album: V2.0, due July 24. 'Kiss is also being rotated on Jermaine Dupri's white-label release "Hate in Your Blood," which also features Freeway. Latest update in the Ras Kass / Jadakiss / Alchemist saga: Despite the fact that Jadakiss's "We Gon' Make It" is blowing up in New York, Priority has issued promo vinyl for Ras Kass's "home sweet home" the track which uses the same beat. As we reported earlier, Alchemist sold the same beat to both artists, and now there are issues as to which will come out. Personally, I like Jada's version better while Ras may be a more intellectually stimulating emcee, Jadakiss's style and cadence fits the beat much better. No word on whether or not Interscope plans to release Jadakiss's "We Gon' Make It" or not. |

New Wu-Tang LP: RZA Says Yes, Method Man Says No: RZA said Tuesday that the Clan will follow up last year's The W with an album of "back-to-basics, raw Wu stuff" in December. However, Method Man recently told a far different story. "It's not gonna happen," he said. "Right now we're going through a little internal shit, bullshit. When you have so many mouths to feed and then the sales aren't what they used to be, you know, things happen. Right now we're all working together to build a family structure back again. Fuck a album. Let's be a family again. "We gotta bring the friendship back, the unit back, before we can even attempt to go in the studio and make another album." Columbia Records has penciled in December 4 as the album's tentative release date. Though RZA said the group will record new material over the next few months, Wu-Tang have more than an album's worth of songs left over from The W sessions, as well as material recorded with Ol' Dirty Bastard while he was on the lam last fall. ODB is currently in a New York jail awaiting sentencing on crack-cocaine charges. ODB's studio work while a fugitive from the law also enabled him to turn up on RZA's and Ghostface Killah's solo albums. He joins Meth, GZA, Masta Killa and Goodie Mob's Big Gipp on RZA as Bobby Digital: Digital Bullet, due on August 28. The LP is RZA's second album as the techno-age superhero Bobby Digital. "Show U Love" will serve as a club single, while "La Ramba" will be released to radio and have an accompanying video. Method Man is in the midst of recording his third solo LP with Wu producer Mathematics, Dame Grease, Yogi and Quran, the latter of whom tracked Meth's "Break Ups 2 Make Ups," his Def Jam publicist said. The effort, which Method Man at one point planned to title Tical O: The Prequel, is his first solo LP since 1998's Tical 2000: Judgement Day. Ghostface Killah is finishing up Bulletproof Wallets in Miami, according to his A&R rep. Other than Dirty, the follow-up to last year's Supreme Clientele features guest spots from Raekwon, Meth and Carl Thomas and production by RZA, Alchemist and Ghost. GZA is recording his third solo effort, while Raekwon is set to drop the follow-up to 1999's Immobilarity, on October 9. No details were available on either album at press time. Cappadonna released The Yin and the Yang in April 2001 |

Erick Sermon Making EPMD, Def Squad, Solo Albums: Erick Sermon is living up to his "Green Eyed Bandit" nickname. Having just moved his Def Squad imprint from DreamWorks to Clive Davis' J Records, Sermon has a boatload of money in his sights. Sermon has devised a song that the thugs in the clubs can dance to, and at the same time your grandmother would want to sing along to. He said that now that he has the attention of a diverse congregation of listeners, he plans to address everyone with his third solo album, The Sermon, scheduled to drop in August. He plans on making people feel even better when he releases a new version of "Music," this time with more guest vocals."We got a remix going on with Dr. Dre and Jay-Z that will be happening around," he said. "I don't know when we are going to drop that though, because the [original version] is still heating up. Hopefully when we start dying down a little bit, we will drop that. I'm going to use the same beat. The beat was already hot so don't change it if it ain't broken." R&B King R. Kelly will sing on a song about hardship, while veterans Scarface and LL Cool J join in on "Do Re Mi," where each vet boasts about his longevity in song-making. Foxy Brown has also collaborated with Sermon for the album, as have Def Squad members Keith Murray and Redman. Serman will produed the new Keith Murray album, the Def Squad are planning their second LP as a collective, titled "Tsunami", to be released next year. Also on his plate is a return to the foundation that made him a rap legend Sermon has already recorded seven songs with Parrish Smith for a new EPMD album. They plan to call the new effort, their seventh, "We Mean Business". You could say it's music to his ears. JUST LIKE "MUSIC". |

Xzibit's new album, "Man Vs. Machine": X is hoping to get "Man Vs. Machine" out by Christmas, though with summer outings scheduled for Europe and Japan, as well as a few spot dates, he concedes that early 2002 might be a little more realistic. Part of his studio duties will be recording the Golden State Project with Ras Kass and Saafir (who will also appear on "Man Vs. Machine"). However, X said do not expect to see him go in the booth to lay vocals for the long-talked-about Likwit Crew family album anytime soon. |

Dre's new Album 'Detox': Dr. Dre hasn't set a date yet for the release of his fourth album Detox, but he has already begun conceptualizing some of the special effects to be included on the anticipated record. Dre says that Detox will be recorded in 5.1 surround sound. "When you listen to a record, you basically have left and right, you know what I'm saying? It's going to give me a whole new world to deal with. For instance, you could be listening to my record, and hear a car go by in the background, you know what I'm saying? Behind you. Just maybe a low rider bouncing by, behind you, or some sh-t like that," he explains. "The helicopter I had in this song on my last album is just going left to right. This time it'll be able to spin around your head. If a bomb is dropping, it will be able to go from left front to right rear. It'll sound like it's going over your head. It's just going to give you a whole new world of recording. A whole new way of listening to records." Dr. Dre is wrapping the filming of The Wash, his first major comedic role where he and Snoop play roommates working at the same adventure-filled car wash. |

Beanie Sigel Arrested in Philly: South Philadelphia hip-hop artist Beanie Sigel made an unscheduled appearance in Center City yesterday afternoon: He was picked up on an assault warrant and taken to Police Headquarters. Sigel, 27, whose real name is Dwight Grant, was being held last night on charges of aggravated and simple assault after he reportedly kicked and punched a driver who got into an altercation with Sigel and his buddies on a South Philadelphia street last week. The incident occurred on July 5 and took place on Sigel Street - in the neighborhood where Beanie grew up and on the street from which he drew his moniker. Sigel and his friends were hanging around the 2100 block of Sigel when Frank Ferrer, 31, also of South Philadelphia, happened by in his Ford F-150. Police said Ferrer told them that he was trying to get by the group when he heard a loud bang. The group began shouting at him and became upset when he honked at them, Ferrer told police. Sigel, whom Ferrer said he recognized, then pulled his Bentley in front of the pickup truck, blocking Ferrer's way. Ferrer told police he got out of his truck and was jumped. Sigel kicked and punched him while he was down, Ferrer told police. Ferrer was treated at St. Agnes Medical Center for a fractured rib, an injury to his right eye, and a concussion, police said. In a February incident, in which he was accused of pouring a drink on a young woman and threatening her with a gun, Sigel walked away a free man after the victim failed to show up in court. The judge dropped charges of simple assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, and weapons offenses. |

P Diddy : sample free?: Puff Daddy, aka P Diddy, has admitted a claim that he didn't use any samples on his new album is untrue. The hip hop star is reported to have claimed the album, 'P Diddy And The Bad Boy Family...The Saga Continues', was more creative than his previous releases because he hadn't used samples of other people's work. Publicity material also said the album was made up of original beats and music, but on release in the US this week it was found to contain samples on 12 of the 17 tracks. Puff Daddy has admitted there was a 'miscommunication' and that he meant to say he didn't use samples from big hits. 'When anybody is talking about a sample, usually it's talking about a known sample,' he said. 'People know me, and people always try and criticise me for using pop hits. We didn't do that this time.' Tracks that appear on the album include Al Green's 'Love And Happiness' and the Alan Parsons Project's 'Sirius'. |

Junior M.A.F.I.A. is back: Notorious B.I.G.'s proteges Junior M.A.F.I.A. have changed their name to Mafia, and are preparing to release a white-label version of the song "Nothing's Wrong" to radio, according to Jacob York of Yorktown Music Group, who consults the act. The funky, West Coast-flavored song features raps from Lil' Kim, Lil' Cease, and Banger. In the song's call-and-response chorus, which includes Roger Troutman-like vocoder-enhanced vocals, Lil' Cease and Banger rap, "I don't see nothing wrong with smoking weed and f--king all night long." And during Lil' Kim's verse, she counteracts their lyric with, "I don't see nothing wrong with spending this money all night long." Mafia is anticipating releasing a follow-up to its 1995 gold album Conspiracy next year. Conspiracy bore the gold single "Player's Anthem" and the platinum "Get Money." |
